Dec 27, 2017 · Don't forget to have the following lines in /boot/config.txt: . framebuffer_depth=32 gpu_mem=256 dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d You might be OK with 128 or 192 for gpu memory, but I chose to go with 256M as 768M left is plenty for apps and even compiling evrything, while it allocates a reasonable amount of memory for buffers and textures.

If you have "raspberrypi" in the eselect list of opengl, it is using the driver from media-libs/raspberrypi-userland. The vc4 driver from mesa is a Gallium driver and would not show up there. I am using mesa-11.2.2 on a Raspberry Pi 3, the current mesa-12.0.1 is broken for me. glxinfo would then show, in the "Extended renderer info" section:

  • Once you have mesa VC4 support you can enable kernel module and try to switch to VC4 GPU. To enable the kernel module, you have to enable the optional overlay in your config.txt with dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d. It's also recommended to bump your gpu_mem to 128 (it's what raspi-config does when you enable the driver through it).

Currently v3d clock comes from PLLA=3GHz with a channel divisor of 6, and a clock divider of 2. Requesting v3d_freq=600 will result in a fractional divider of 1.666 which means some clock pulses are effectively at 1GHz - no Pi4 will work like that.
To get around the problem of the vc4 module and to get the second monitor output to work you need Mesa 19.1.0 or later, that means an upgrade to beowulf and fixing a few dependancies.
